His father was the first flutist in Warsaw Symphony Orchestra, and his mother was from the old Warsaw klezmer family, Melodysta. Artur Gold completed secondary music school in Warsaw, then he went to Great Britain to study violin and composition (his uncle was a musician in London). After WWI he returned to Poland, where in 1922 he established with his cousin, Jerzy Petersburski the famous Gold & Petersburski Jazz Orchestra, becoming one of first importers of the modern dance rhythms from America to Poland.
